The proliferation of new sports facilities across the Southeast shows no signs of slowing, with the latest case in point being Atlanta United’s release of new renderings for the Major League Soccer team’s new training facility.

Designed by Atlanta-based tvsdesign, the 30,000-sq-ft facility—to be located on a 33-acre site in Marietta, Ga.—will include six playing fields for the club, which begins Major League Soccer play in 2017. The facility, estimated at more than $60 million, will be used by both professional and “soccer academy” players, according to a press announcement.

Recently, Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank—who also owns the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons—told MLSSoccer.com that the expansion club is focused on building a youth academy in order to develop “homegrown” players.

Mark Carter, principal in charge with tvsdesign, noted in an announcement that the club’s development plans play out in the firm’s design for the facility. “While Atlanta United's training grounds are a place primarily focused on high performance, teamwork and wellness, it’s also an important recruiting tool for the team,” he stated. “We understand that elite talent is attracted to elite experiences and the design of the building is intentionally responsive to the organization's progressive cultural and business initiatives.”

Added Design Principal Rob O’Keefe: “We wanted to create a versatile facility for Atlanta United that is designed to not only encourage the development of the professional team and academy but that also creates opportunities to engage the fans as well as the surrounding community.”

Leading construction of the United training facility are Holder Construction and C.D. Moody Construction Co. According to representatives of United, the facility’s fields are scheduled to be complete by January, with the building to open in April 2017.
