Built an international portfolio but now makes a difference locally

After starting his career on international projects, Arndt aims to make a difference on a local level. Graduating from Columbia University with a master's degree in architecture, he was recruited by a South Korean architecture firm. As a lead designer, he worked on buildings all over the world, including several skyscrapers in Azerbaijan, government buildings in Abu Dhabi and the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium that was built for the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. Today, Arndt is a project architect at Finegold Alexander and Associates, where his work includes Temple Israel Omaha, a synagogue that was part of a proposal for the nation's first tri-faith community that includes a mosque, church and synagogue. In addition, he developed and founded VariousMonks.com, an online database of local building products and services, which is based on the idea of connecting architects, contractors and builders to local materials all over North America. Through the site, Arndt aims to promote sustainable design and construction as well as local economic development.

Raymond P. Beaudry Jr.

Beaudry proved his leadership skills early in his career. Following graduation from Baypath Vocational Technical High School in Charlton, Mass., in 1996, he joined Local 4 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters union the following year. Upon completion of its five-year apprenticeship program, Beaudry became a journeyman with multiple licenses. He was a foreman in his early 20s, and he was elected business development representative of the local in 2003 at the age of 25. Four years later, he was elected to his current position as business manager-financial secretary. A year after, Beaudry was elected vice president of the Worcester-Fitchburg Building Trades Council, and last year he was elected president. In this role, Beaudry is responsible for negotiating major projects for all the trades with contractors, developers and end construction users, including a project labor agreement on the $750-million Bristol Myers Squibb plant at Fort Devens. He has also been involved in public policy issues, spearheading a successful campaign to establish a new responsible employer ordinance in the city of Worcester.
