Flatiron has also had great success in other partnerships and its safety record. This year the firm brought home two California Transportation Foundation awards for the Interstate 5 reconstruction project in Buena Park as well as for taxiway improvements at the San Diego Airport.
Flatiron also won five awards from the California Dept. of Transportation for partnering success on five projects in the state.
Flatiron's state projects have been recognized nationally, including a special recognition citation in the Associated General Contractors of America Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering competition for the Lenihan Dam Outlet modification project in Los Gatos.
This year, Flatiron's Interstate 238 widening project won the International Partnering Institute's John L. Martin Partnered Project of the Year Diamond Award.
Meanwhile, Flatiron was nominated and placed second nationally in the AGC safety competition.
Other achievements include the Gold Safety Award for the 2010 Safe Railroad Contractor of the Year contest, held by the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association, and first place (highway division) in the AGC of San Diego's Construction Safety Excellence Awards competition.
The firm also just won the American Road & Transportation Builders Association's Work Zone Safety Awareness Award, honored for its Protecting Work Zones Committee, a collaborative group at the company that is committed to providing employees with best practices for protection in work zones.
