A new government center facility in Vacaville was dedicated last month and named in honor of former county supervisor and Vacaville mayor William J. Carroll, the first Solano County building named in honor of an individual.
Carroll contributed 36 years of public service and was an active supporter of health care. The 38,864-sq-ft facility features a public health clinic; a dental clinic; employment and eligibility services; mental health services; women, infants and children services; special inspection bureau; substance abuse services; public health nurse; child welfare services; and older and disabled adult services.
The design-build project was built by Turner Construction Corp., Oakland, and designed by KMD Architects, San Francisco.
The center was predominately funded by Tobacco Master Settlement funds as well as an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant for a dental clinic made possible through the assistance of Congressman George Miller. It also includes an enhanced transit plaza, partially funded with State Transit Assistance Funds and Federal Transportation Administration and Transportation Development Act funds.
The facility was designed and constructed to achieve LEED silver certification. Landscape architecture was provided by SWA Group’s Sausalito office.
