A passionate advocate for the advancement of women, minorities and small businesses, Wil-kin founded Bradford Construction Corp., a women-owned business enterprise, in 1989, and in February 2011, Gov. Andrew Cuomo appointed Wilkin to his minority and women-owned business enterprise team. She was recently appointed to the New York City Committee on Construction Workforce and Contracting Opportunity, which has helped establish new project labor agreements.

Willis founded the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation, a nonprofit research and educational organization whose mission is to expand the knowledge of women's contribution to architecture and engineering. She has designed many notable projects, including the Manhattan Village Academy High School. A well-known force in the industry, her work has been widely published and exhibited in museums, including the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York.
