With 11 years of experience, Toro is responsible for developing high-performance and sustainable buildings, including the design of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems for luxury residential towers, hotels, corporate interiors, retail, museums, natatoriums, entertainment venues and libraries. Toro, who also heads GEA's mechanical department, is a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and North Carolina. He was one of the country's first engineers to receive the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers's high-performance building design professional and Commissioning Process Management Professional certifications. Toro's projects include a chiller plant for a new New York City residential tower that includes absorption air-conditioning equipment rather than refrigerant-based equipment, a Jersey City central plant upgrade for a 23-story building and renovation of NYC's Noguchi Museum that includes HVAC design with museum-quality environmental control for art and antiques. An adjunct professor at New York University and Pratt Institute's School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Toro has also volunteered for organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and CANstruction.
