The PortMiami Wharves Strengthening project entailed the construction of 5,200 lineal ft of seawall to strengthen existing cargo wharves and allow for a future dredged depth of 50 ft. Constructing the seawall required 500 36-in.-dia, 86-ft-long pipe piles and more than 800 pairs of 76-ft-long sheet piles. Four hundred and thirty-two soil anchors tie back the wall, which is topped by a 6-ft-high, 12-ft-wide concrete cap beam. Odebrecht carried out the work without impacting cargo operations, finishing 10 days ahead of schedule and $2 million below its original $57-million budget.
