Cost: $486.7 million
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commissions Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program is a two-phase program to improve 802 of the states lowest-rated bridges by October 2014.
In the first phase of the program, 248 bridges have been identified for rehabilitation, and many of those are already under construction by other contractors. They are being put out for bid in groups according to location, type or size to expedite the design and construction process.
In the second phase, the remaining 554 bridges are scheduled for complete removal and replacement and have been packaged in a single design-build contract that was awarded to KTU Constructors, a joint venture, in June 2009.
KTU Constructors has committed to the complete construction of these 554 bridges by December 2013. KTU is comprised of Kiewit Western Co., Traylor Bros. Inc. and United Contractors Inc.
The $487 million design-build project will replace the bridges in 111 Missouri counties.
