LPCiminelli planned to start construction this fall on a $40-million dormitory at Buffalo State, designed by Cannon Design. The 507-bed facility is projected for completion in 2011.
Cannon Design also designed a $100-million, two-phase renovation and expansion of Buffalo State’s 171,000-sq-ft, four-story science building, using building information modeling for all components and drawings. The renewed 210,000-sq-ft facility will function as a comprehensive science complex, housing programs in biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, mathematics and science education.
In 2010, Buffalo State plans to begin construction on a $40-million technology building, designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative of Glastonbury, Conn. Funding for construction is in place, according to the school.
Cannon Design is designing a science laboratory building for SUNY at Oswego. The university reports the $69.5-million project will transform the 46-year-old Piez Hall into a 262,000-sq-ft science facility that will house the biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, earth sciences, physics and math departments, as well as new programs in engineering.
Also at SUNY at Oswego, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York is funding construction of a $44-million, 350-bed townhouse residence complex, scheduled for completion in May.
DASNY is building four new dormitory buildings at Binghamton University SUNY. Each will hold 345 beds. Estimated cost is $59 million and completion is set for September 2013.
Private developer WILSU, a subsidiary of Wilmorite of Rochester, N.Y., received a payment-in-lieu-of-tax agreement in April from the city of Syracuse to builda $15-million, 226-bed student housing development on land leased from Syracuse University.
Sano-Rubin is wrapping up construction of a $10.8-million, 46,000-sq-ft, three-story distance learning center for Empire State College SUNY in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Transportation Cannon Design is providing construction management services on a $28-million, automatic baggage-handling system at Buffalo Niagara International Airport for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority. Cannon Design in association with CAGE of Armonk, N.Y., developed the conceptual plan for the system, which is scheduled for completion in 2009. LPCiminelli is the contractor on the project.
In association with the civil engineering firm DiDonato Associates of Buffalo, Cannon Design is monitoring construction of a new terminal building at Niagara Falls International Airport for NFTA. DiDonato also is monitoring terminal apron and landside improvements. General contractor Walter S. Johnson Building Co. of Niagara Falls is building the $28.3-million terminal building. The entire $43.9-million project will allow the airport to handle 747-400 and 757-300 aircraft.
