Medical Intensive Care Unit
Salt Lake City
Jacobsen Construction built a 15-bed intensive care unit on the fourth floor of the University of Utah Hospital. The project included state-of-the-art medical booms, patient lifts and nurse call systems in the patient rooms, as well as a conference room, break room, locker rooms, nurse stations, resident sleeping rooms and more.
One of the main components was installing structural-steel supports for the medical booms in each patient room. What should have been easy proved a big challenge when most of the steel did not fit. However, the structural steel was the key to the project's critical path. While the steel was being redesigned, Jacobsen got creative with alternative plans to keep the project moving and to meet deadlines.
