In June 2010, the Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark in Billings, Mont., was hit by tornado-force winds that tore off most of the roof and damaged the HVAC system and interior finishes. The $30-million reconstruction included extensive demolition and replacement of major structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural and enclosure components.

The rebuilt 232,000-sq-ft structure includes new arena seating, luxury suites, food service facilities, lighting and performance systems.

The arena seats more than 10,000 people and houses trade and consumer shows, concerts, rodeos, sporting events, livestock shows and conventions. The facility has been a staple in the local community, serving residents from more than 250 miles in every direction and is the largest events center within a five-state region. The objective was to get the facility up and running quickly while improving amenities for future visitors.

The project included modernization of facilities, an improved user experience and better code compliance, enhanced revenue-generating opportunities and performance features such as acoustics and rigging supports. The community welcomed the return of this important civic structure. With its upgrades, the arena will continue to provide entertainment and education to residents and visitors.
