A primary goal of the projects is to relieve flooding in the area. The current bridges were built in 1931 and will be replaced with longer, wider bridges. The project is under construction by Bake Bridge LP of Abilene.

A $1-million replacement of two bridges over Pecan Creek in Gainesville began in the fall and should be completed by July.
