Irving-based Fluor Corp. helped LDK Solar’s polysilicon plant in Xinyu City, China, toward its first successful production run. As the engineering, procurement and construction management contractor, Fluor helped bring the facility from groundbreaking to first production in 20 months. LDK Solar initiated production ramp-up of operations for its first 5,000 metric-ton train of its eventual 15,000 MT (annualized capacity) polysilicon plant in Xinyu earlier this month.
Additionally, RasGas Co. Ltd. recently recognized Fluor for its successful completion of the RL3 Common Offplot Projects in Ras Laffan City, Qatar. Fluor began the $1.5 billion engineering, procurement and construction management project in November 2005. Fluor’s engineering, procurement and construction management scope for the common offplot facilities included power distribution, pipelines, storage tanks utilities and related equipment supporting numerous new LNG, gas-to-liquids and gas sales projects.
As well, Mexico’s state oil company, PEMEX Refining, awarded ICA Fluor, the industrial construction joint venture of Empresas ICA, S.A.B. de C.V. and Fluor Corp. engineering, procurement and construction, contracts for two low-sulfur gasoline projects in Mexico. The $638-million contracts are part of PEMEX’s clean-fuels program and were awarded to ICA Fluor after an international public bidding process. ICA Fluor will be responsible for the EPC, testing and start-up that includes the installation of the catalytic gasoline desulfurization plants, the amine regeneration units, offsites, utilities and integration for the existing Hector R. Lara Sosa Refinery in Cadereyta, Nuevo Leon.
