The project team for the Nashville Sounds First Tennessee Ballpark completed work on the 100,000-sq-ft facility in 12 months. Situated in the historic location of a former ballpark, the facility was designed to accommodate city events, an enhanced greenway and public green spaces. The playing field for the ballpark—located about three blocks from the Cumberland River—is 10 ft below the 100-year flood plain. The team designed and constructed a wet well system—to collect and discharge seating bowl runoff, field irrigation water and stormwater overflow—as well as systems to prevent ballpark flooding. Designers also used systems that could be cleaned easily or removed in the event of a storm or flood.
