The Lemoine Co. led work on the expansion and renovation at General Electric’s existing facility in Broussard, La., where the owner was looking to consolidate both the manufacture and repair of its blowout preventers.
Safety measures taken on the job included a corporate safety manual and a safety master plan.
Knowing the team would be presented with situations unique to the active GE oil and gas campus setting, preproject safety plans were developed especially for the most active and populated areas of the campus. Working in conjunction with GE’s safety director, results of the assessments were incorporated into the safety master plan before the start of construction.
The team also used electronic-reporting technology, with employees reporting observations via smartphones on the jobsite, making it possible to track the level of safety on site in real time. The result was 83,421 man-hours with zero lost-time accidents.
