The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority extended its due date for design-build proposals from prequalified bidders to June 1 for the $1.4-billion Westside Purple Line Extension, Section 2 project. The 2.55-mile underground route will extend the Purple Line from Wilshire/La Cienega (the terminus of the currently under construction Phase 1) to Century City. Chaffey Joint Union High School District requests statements of qualification for architectural and engineering services for a new science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) high school campus in Ontario. The selected firm will perform planning, design and construction administration services on the $68.3-million project, to be located on the site adjacent to Valley View High School. The school will serve 1,200 specialized STEM students and will include administrative and library space, 54 STEM classrooms, cafeteria, multipurpose space, a gymnasium, parking, a new synthetic track and field with 1,500 bleachers and associated site development. Mortenson Clark JV anticipates the release of bid package No. 1 to subcontractors by June 20 for Chase Center, the new sports and entertainment venue for the Golden State Warriors. The expected bid date will be July 18. Located in the Mission Bay district of San Francisco, the estimated $1-billion privately financed project will include the 18,064-seat arena, 580,000 sq ft of office and lab space, 100,000 sq ft of retail and a 35,000-sq-ft public plaza. The arena must be no more than 135 ft in height. Commercial buildings will be between six and 11 stories. Trades in package No. 1 include foundations, structural steel, curtain wall, elevators, fire protection, HVAC, electrical and plumbing. Award date is planned for the third quarter, with construction set to begin in early 2017. The arena is expected to open prior to the 2019-2020 NBA season.
