Traffic relief dominates regional infrastructure discussions, Bruce says. “Initiatives receiving the greatest attention are the widening of I-10 through the heart of Baton Rouge and increasing the number of lanes crossing the Mississippi River,” he says. The city is pursuing a modern streetcar line extending from downtown to LSU, which has already received a TIGER planning grant from the USDOT, he adds. “There is great need for additional local road initiatives coupled with state and federal influx of dollars to maintain the robust public sector construction efforts,” he says.
