Business leaders in the Reno area have worked very hard to attract manufacturing to the region, including Tesla Motors—which is building a “gigafactory” for batteries—and e-commerce companies, says Kazmierski. Growth remains rapid in the Tahoe-Reno industrial center, he says, adding that Tesla’s battery facility is 15% complete, with another 3 million sq ft planned. In addition, Switch is working on the first phase of what will be the world’s largest data center—6.4 million sq ft at completion.
