The original access point for Interstate 210 and Cove Lane was a single-lane exit ramp built on eastbound I-210 in the 1960s. The interchange was in desperate need of an upgrade. To alleviate congestion, the team built and completed in under 20 months a full interchange with eight traffic movements. Value engineering saved money by reducing the I-210 profile heights to shorten the ramp lengths and modifying the westbound ramp geometry to move it closer to the mainline, thereby reducing the embankment footprint.
