Cary Hegreberg
Executive Director
Montana Contractors Association
“Vertical builders are reporting a robust year, with more problems finding workers than work,” Hegreberg says. “Highway contractors are uneasy at best about the short-term outlook, as state fuel-tax collections are not adequate to fund ongoing programs. Montana’s tax base and a lot of construction has relied heavily on coal, oil, ag and timber. For different reasons, they are all in the tank. With no state sales tax, we can’t tax tourists nearly enough to make up the shortfall. We’ll ask our legislature to consider all options when their session convenes.”
