Chevron built a new human resources facility at its Salt Lake refinery. The complex features 14 buildings situated on a 20-acre site located northwest of the company’s existing refinery.
The project team constructed a new two-story administration building and several tall, single-story shops, as well as other structures. An employee-access road situated on new fill extends to the south and west away from the main site. The road and the contractor-access road to the north required two crossings of the new canal alignment and one crossing of a relatively large east-west canal to get to the site.
The site was under extensive security protections. The project perimeter was completely secure, and entry was allowed only through a guarded gate or a card-reader pedestrian turnstile.
The Okland-led project management team committed to completing the facility without incident or injury to all individuals associated with the project. The zero-accident culture was enhanced through effective communications and personal accountability based on creating workable solutions. Every employee on the project was empowered with the authority and obligation to stop unsafe work conditions. The project logged more than 417,000 man-hours without a recordable accident.
