The new Utah State University Aggie Recreation Center is a hub for the student community. The 117,000-sq-ft facility includes an indoor track, climbing wall, cardio loft, weight rooms, three full-size basketball or volleyball courts, two group fitness studios, a multi-activity court, student lounge space and offices. A canyon theme blends the building with the surrounding area. As visitors approach the central interior space, called the canyon corridor, they can see through the entire building to the back of the facility. Within the corridor, wall pop-outs mimic the inside of a natural canyon. Graphics feature trail heads and elevation markers with the names of popular local hiking trails, while the concrete floor is stained and polished to resemble a rock canyon. The project is pursuing LEED Silver certification.
