More than four months after construction abruptly stopped on a $76-million student housing project for the University of Nevada at Las Vegas , the developer is seeking a new contractor.
Developer Midby Cos. named Korte Co. its prime contractor and construction began in 2016 but stopped last summer. The contractor says disputes between the developer—which bought the property in cooperation with UNLV—led to the termination.
Todd Imming, Korte's chief marketing officer, said in an email that negotiations could not resolve difference between the two companies and lead to completion in fall of 2018.
“It therefore became necessary for Korte to protect itself and its subcontractors by exercising its rights afforded Nevada contractors on such projects. By the legal action, we simply want to recover the amounts which we believe are legally due,” he stated, without saying specifically what legal action had been taken.
A spokeswoman for Midby Cos. says the developer is close to awarding the construction contract to another firm.
UNLV also declined comment.
