“San Francisco is such an interesting market when you look at all the hospital systems, higher education systems, the availability of civic and residential opportunities,” Childress says. The multiple ways to deliver projects—design-build, P3—keep the market moving.

Companies are also looking to grow in campus environments rather than maintain operations in different buildings around the town. And since many Bay Area clients are tech companies, builders need to invest in technology to be competitive, Childress says.
