Opening in 2019, the Kartrite is a two-acre indoor water park and resort in the Catskills town of Monticello, N.Y. The $160-million project will set aside 98,000 sq ft for waterslides and pools, and includes a hotel with 324 rooms on seven floors.

Paul Knapick , staff photographer for BBL, the project’s construction manager, snapped the picture using a Nikon D500. The shutterbug says he was on site when the first of the structure’s wooden arches was erected and that he plans to reshoot when all are in place.

“In this particular case, I got there early in the morning,” Knapick says about the perfect play of light and shadow in the photo. “Sometimes I have a lot of time, but sometimes not. In construction, stuff happens so quickly … but once in a while you get lucky.”
