Alabama The Alabama Dept. of Transportation is planning to construct additional lanes along a 4.8-mile section of Interstate 59 in Tuscaloosa, from south of County Road 1900 (Black Warrior Parkway) interchange to State Route 6/U.S. 82. Maryland The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is planning to construct a submerged channel intake at the Potomac Water Filtration Plant in Potomac. The current Potomac River raw water intake structure is near the shoreline and is adversely impacted during storm events by sediment runoff from local tributary inflows. The new proposed intake structure would be submerged and located approximately 500 ft from the Maryland shoreline. It will also provide an additional barrier against drinking water contamination (particularly Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts). The project is valued at $83.1 million. Missouri The Municipal Theatre Association of St. Louis (commonly known as The Muny) is planning to renovate its outdoor amphitheater in Forest Park in St. Louis. The stage and surrounding structures will be completely replaced with an Art Deco design that will include multiple stage decks and stage floor tracking. The orchestra pit will move under the stage and be more enclosed but still visible to the audience. The project includes new east and west towers flanking the stage, which will provide structural support for a new light bridge. The east tower will include a new house management office, while the west tower will contain new orchestra rooms, a sound room and a prop room. The project is valued at $100 million. Ohio Cliffs Natural Resources is planning to construct a hot briquette iron processing facility on a 100-acre site in the Ironville section of East Toledo. The plant will receive 2 million tons of iron ore mined in Minnesota and Michigan per year and convert it into briquettes, to be shipped by rail and trucked to mills in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. The plant will be designed by Midrex Technologies Inc. The project also includes improvements to the Ironville intermodal facility for material storage and processing, including a rail connection and raw material conveyor over Front Street. Washington Da-Li Development plans to build the KODA condominium tower at 450 South Main St. in Seattle. The 17-story, 149,508-sq-ft building will contain 204 apartments, ground-floor retail space and 75 underground parking spaces. It is being designed by KMD Architects, and PCL Construction has been chosen as the general contractor. Construction is expected to start in October 2018 and be completed by July 2020. California 7/10 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking bidders to carry out Natomas Basin Reach I Contract 1, a levee improvement project in Sacramento County. The project is located on the reach of Natomas levee adjacent to the American River in Sacramento. It includes installation of approximately two miles of cement-bentonite cutoff walls between Gateway Oaks Blvd. and Northgate Blvd., mostly centered on Garden Highway. The cutoff walls will have an average depth of 45 ft. Excavation spoils will be hauled to a site to be spread and compacted. A landside drainage blanket will be installed on the levee slope underneath Interstate 5. Relocation or removal of waterlines, sanitary force mains and other utilities is included. The project entails constructing a grade separation at Balcones Creek Road and Fair Oaks Parkway turnaround, reconfiguring ramps, widening the frontage roads and converting to one-way, and making intersection improvements.
