Delaware

The Delaware Dept. of Administrative Services Facility Management has proposed the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution Infirmary Expansion in New Castle. The nearly $11.5-million contract to design and expand the infirmary includes renovating the existing medical area and enlarging and renovating the infirmary to accommodate anticipated growth in the inmate population. District of Columbia

S.C. Herman & Associates Inc. is planning the 600 E St. NW renovation project, to be located about two blocks from two Washington Metrorail stations. The up to $25-million design-bid-build project could require repositioning a 340,000-sq-ft office building. The owner is deciding between a minor renovation of the 1970s-era brick building and additional features, such as a glass facade. Planning and zoning approvals were pending at press time. Maryland

The Maryland Aviation Administration is planning the BWI–Southwest Airlines Maintenance Hangar Infrastructure project at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The $50-million design-bid-build project includes such infrastructure improvements as utility work and site preparation for a planned 130,000-sq-ft hangar. Merritt Properties LLC has proposed a mixed-use office and retail building at 3401 Boston St. in Baltimore. The $70-million project includes a 385,000-sq-ft building with 20 stories above grade and two below grade. The structural steel building includes 9,000 sq ft of retail and 550 parking spots. Pennsylvania

The University of Pittsburgh is planning a second phase of upgrades to Crawford Hall. The $19.8-million project includes renovating an 87,600-sq-ft building and adding approximately 3,800 sq ft. Infrastructure improvements include new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and elevator systems, structure, improvement to the exterior envelope and new space for offices, classrooms, and flexible laboratories, including a vivarium. The existing penthouse and portions of the south facade are to be demolished. Plans are underway, but bid and construction schedules had not been determined at press time. The Georgelas Group is planning the Spring Hill Station North Mixed-Use project in Tysons. The $100-million design-bid-build project could include 1.3 million sq ft of residential space in as many as three residential buildings that each would hold about 400 units. It could also include a 170,000-sq-ft hotel and up to 75,000 sq ft of retail. The plan would also allow as much as 797,000 sq ft of office space. The Allegheny County Airport Authority is bidding a terminal modernization program at Pittsburgh International Airport. The $783.8-million project includes relocating the landside terminal and related parking and roadway functions to a new terminal complex to be constructed adjacent to the existing airside terminal. After the new terminal complex is constructed and fully operational, the existing landside terminal may be demolished or adapted for reuse. The project includes a three-level, 632,000-sq-ft main terminal addition to the existing airside terminal and a six-story parking garage connected to the main terminal addition by two pedestrian bridges. The bidding is scheduled for Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. The construction manager contract will be awarded in February. Construction will begin in fiscal year 2019 and is to be completed in fiscal 2023. The School District of Philadelphia is renovating and building an addition to the Ethan Allen Elementary School. The $13.8-million project includes upgrades to building systems and components. The addition will consist of eight classrooms and a gymnasium. At press time, schematic designs were being created by USA Architects, Planners & Interior Designers. Capital One Financial Corp. has proposed a $90-million office tower with retail space in Fairfax. The design-bid-build project would include one building with 26 stories above grade and two below grade. The 613,000-sq-ft structural steel building could include 10,350 sq ft of ground-floor retail. The permit process was underway at press time. The schedule had yet to be published. The design team includes Bonstra |Haresign Architects, Gensler and civil engineering firm William H. MRP Industrial is building the Container Store Distribution Center at Eastgate 95 Industrial Park in Perryman. The up to $50-million design-bid-build project includes a one-story building totaling 600,000 sq ft. MRP, which is serving as its own architect, will build and lease the facility to The Container Store Inc. Construction is expected to begin in the spring and be completed by the end of 2019.
