The Carla Madison Recreation Center fills Denver’s long-standing need for a centrally located recreation facility. The unique four-story design includes a gymnasium placed over the pool. There is a large weight room, a full-size basketball court and lots of space for the community to gather. Other features include a 30-ft-tall outdoor climbing wall and an outdoor bouldering area. The building also contains an indoor-outdoor event space on the roof.

LEED Gold certification is being sought for the facility, which features energy-efficient lighting, heating, water conservation, natural light and regional and recycled materials. Denver City Council member Carla Madison, who died in 2011, was a longtime advocate for City Park West and nearby Denver neighborhoods. The new center proudly bears her name.
