Memphis construction poised to finish 2018 with an increase in new contracts

Gains in the residential and non-building sectors should offset slower activity in the non-residential market.

Health-care entities, such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and retail owners have both spurred plenty of contracts in recent years, Woods says. “Also, like other urban centers around the country, downtown Memphis recently has attracted attention from developers.” The Memphis airport, where FedEx has its main hub, is another center of construction activity as the overnight delivery specialist invests in rebuilding and adding to its existing infrastructure. “There’s certainly work on the horizon,” Woods says.
