Shannon GaffneyShannon Gaffney has been appointed operations manager and Jake McMurtry sales manager with the Oakland office of design and construction firm HNTB Corp. The two join newly named Northern California office leader Jeff Watson in directing more than 120 employees across the firm’s Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco offices. Gaffney previously served as department manager for HNTB’s planning and project development group, supporting clients with her funding and finance expertise. McMurtry previously was a marketing manager for the firm’s Northern California markets.

 

Elaine Scott has been named dean of Santa Clara University’s School of Engineering, with her term scheduled to commence in August. Scott previously was with the University of Washington Bothell, where she served as founding dean of its School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

 

Matthew G. CummingsMatthew G. Cummings was named president and CEO at San Francisco-based T.Y. Lin International, a design and construction firm specializing in infrastructure. Cummings, who has more than 30 years of experience in engineering, previously led a $2-billion transportation infrastructure business with an engineering and construction enterprise. He succeeds former president and CEO Alvaro J. Piedrahita, who has transitioned to chairman of the firm’s board of directors.

 

Sam Yu was appointed senior vice president with design and construction firm STV Inc.’s construction management division in Los Angeles. Yu formerly was Western territory manager with the division, a position he held since 2015.

 

Krista RainesKrista Raines has joined the San Francisco office of engineer Thornton Tomasetti as vice president. Among other activities, she is providing senior-level support to the firm’s sustainability practice in the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest as well as across the U.S. She also leads the San Francisco practice’s building analytics team. With more than a dozen years of experience in sustainable design and project management, Raines’ technical skill set includes energy, carbon, thermal, daylight and wind modeling, in addition to renewable energy and life cycle analysis, building water calculation and green building certification.

 

Mark Turner has joined general contractor Suffolk as its chief operating officer in Los Angeles. His responsibilities include operational guidance and leadership for the firm’s construction operations as well as oversight of complex projects throughout Los Angeles and Southern California. Turner has 35 years of industry experience. He previously held leadership roles for San Francisco-based Webcor Builders.

 

Don Bullock joined the San Diego office of engineer, general contractor and construction manager AECOM as construction management lead for its water business in the West. Bullock has extensive experience in management of major public works projects, with specific emphasis on construction and program management for major civil infrastructure projects.

 

Destiny SnellingDestiny Snelling has joined San Diego-based risk management and insurance brokerage firm Cavignac & Associates as an account manager in its commercial department. Snelling previously served as account manager for commercial construction clients at Lockton Insurance Brokers in La Jolla.
