Denver International Airport’s newest sculpture, Luminous Wind, is located on 61st and Peña Boulevard at Peña Station. Created by artists Laura Haddad and Thomas Drugan, the sculpture is made from environmentally activated materials—952 prismatic clear acrylic rods that reflect and refract sunlight during the day. They radiate from a stainless-steel geodesic sphere set on a tripod of stainless steel columns. The rods were inspired by windswept grasses on the Great Plains. Each rod is illuminated by programmable color-changing LED nodes. The result is a mosaic of shifting colors and patterns that creates spectacular nighttime effects.
