Design-build firm Clayco and representatives from Hubbard Street Group, Shepley Bulfinch, community groups and local politicians celebrated the Aug. 25 groundbreaking for a 26-story residential tower called Skye on 6th in Phoenix’s Roosevelt Row Arts District. The building will contain 309 apartments, 6,500 sq ft of street-level retail space and a 78,000-sq-ft parking garage with 201 spaces. The tower’s wellness-focused design includes a fitness center, a sauna, a steam room, an outdoor pool and spa and a dedicated co-working floor.
Shepley Bulfinch designed the 357,850-sq-ft building, Clayco’s first project in the Phoenix market to achieve LEED Silver certification. It is scheduled for completion in summer 2023.
Over the next two years, Clayco and Hubbard Street Group will donate $10,000 each toward a hands-on educational program for nearby Phoenix Union Bioscience High School. Every other week, up to 15 junior and senior students from the school’s engineering classes will have lunch at the jobsite while different trade professionals conduct site tours.

Arizona State University and Sun Devil Athletics, in partnership with Mortenson and Oak View Group, topped out the university’s multipurpose arena on Sept. 28. Set to open in late 2022, the new arena will serve as the future home for ASU men’s ice hockey, wrestling and women’s gymnastics. In addition to hosting ASU events and competitions, the 5,000 seat arena, which includes an adjacent community ice rink, will serve as a venue for concerts, conferences, youth competitions, educational opportunities and more. It offers a variety of luxury suites, group suites, a large club lounge, premium seating, a 942-seat student section and more than 8,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art locker rooms, weight rooms and office space.
The ceremony also recognized workers for more than 124,892 hours without a single recordable injury.
