Omni PGA Frisco Tops Out

On Feb. 11, crews celebrated the topping out of Omni PGA Frisco Resort with an official ceremony that marked a major milestone for the project. Slated to open in spring 2023, the resort will host 510 guest rooms and Texas ranch homes; a mix of entertainment, dining and retail; and two championship golf courses, representing a $520-million investment in the city of Frisco. 

Omni Hotels & Resorts, Brasfield & Gorrie and SB Architects participated in the ceremony.

 

HNTB Wins Austin-Bergstrom Airport Contract

The city of Austin’s Aviation Dept. has awarded HNTB a contract to serve as airport principal architect/engineer on Phase 1 of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Expansion and Development Program (AEDP).
Under the agreement, HNTB will establish overall design guidelines of the program, including enhancements to the passenger experience and the vision for future design of AEDP facilities. Major elements of Phase 1 are a new 20-gate midfield concourse, a tunnel connecting the midfield concourse to the existing concourse and terminal as well as projects that prepare for expansion of the airport’s terminal.  

 

American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Tops Out

GE Johnson Construction Co. team members participated in a topping-out ceremony in late February for the American Cancer Society Chad Richison Hope Lodge project in Oklahoma City. This three-story, 40,000-sq-ft facility with 34 private guest suites will serve approximately 2,400 cancer patients and caregivers annually. Miles Associates serves as architect on the project. Hope Lodge will provide free lodging for cancer patients and caregivers.

 

Rosethorne Tidal Protection Project Starts

The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) announced in February the start of construction on the Rosethorne Tidal Protection project. The $34-million project is the second of 10 high-priority flood risk reduction projects planned for the greater Lafitte area of Jefferson Parish. 
Phase 1 includes construction of 10,300 linear ft of concrete-capped floodwall and floodgates at an elevation of 7.5 ft. Upon completion, the project will provide additional protection from a 10-year rainfall or tidal event flood for the community of Rosethorne. 
The project is a partnership among CPRA, the Lafitte Area Independent Levee District and the Louisiana Dept. of Transportation and Development. Circle Construction Co., headquartered in Belle Chasse, La., is the contractor.
