Togal.AI, a tech startup that claims its machine learning system can generate 2D construction takeoffs in “mere seconds,” took first place at the eMerge Americas Startup Competition, held recently in Miami. As the winner of the contest, Togal.AI will receive a $420,000 investment. CEO Patrick Murphy pitched the firm’s vision in front of judges, including Kevin O’Leary of the television show “Shark Tank.” “We are honored and beyond excited to see Togal.AI rank as No. 1,” said Murphy, adding: “The construction industry is ripe for innovation.”

Design firm SchenkelShultz Architecture reported that renovation and expansion has begun on the Sarasota County School District’s Booker High School Visual Performing Arts Center project. The improvements are intended to “enhance the performative and technical quality of the facility,” according to the firm. The project will expand the public lobby and includes a complete overhaul of the theater space, including a new balcony, tiered orchestra level as well as other improvements to acoustics and comfort. The expansion portion of the project will add a black box theater, green room, costume shop and classrooms. “The theater at Booker High School is rich in history and is one of the premier art and cultural gems of the Sarasota community,” says Ken Dean, partner and leader of SchenkelShultz’s Sarasota office. “The design preserves the existing theater as a historically significant place to educate students,” adds Ekta Desai, the firm’s design lead for the project. The facility is scheduled to complete by the end of 2022.
