UC San Diego’s $365M Student Housing Project
UC San Diego broke ground on the $365-million Pepper Canyon West Living and Learning Neighborhood student housing project in September.
When completed in 2024, the project will provide 1,300 single-occupancy rooms for students in two 22- and 23-story towers, with connected five-story buildings featuring outdoor terrace seating. Pepper Canyon West aims to achieve LEED Gold certification with a full range of sustainability practices in design and operations.
Low-flow fixtures and drought tolerant landscaping will save water, while green roofs will increase efficiency by removing heat from the air and reducing temperatures on the roof surfaces.
The Sacramento Water Works has been recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers Sacramento Section as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Completed in 1854, the water works was the first municipal, city-owned water system west of the Mississippi River. The Sacramento History Museum now stands in its place, appearing as a replica of the original structure.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board has selected a Flatiron/Myers & Sons Construction joint venture as the construction manager and general contractor for the $507-million I-105 ExpressLanes project. Under its scope, the project will convert the existing HOV lane to ExpressLanes and add a second ExpressLane in each direction on I-105 between I-405 and Studebaker Road in the city of Norwalk. Proposed improvements will provide multimodal travel options to users of the corridor. Metro transit, vanpool and high-occupancy vehicle users will be able to use lanes without a toll.
C.W. Driver Cos. has completed a $33-million, 36,736-sq-ft creative office building at 1550 Euclid St. in downtown Santa Monica. The three-story, steel-frame structure is split into two wings by a U-shaped footprint above the ground level that centers around an exposed courtyard on the second floor. The building also includes three levels of subterranean parking with 90 parking spaces and 23 custom bike racks for long-term storage in the lobby.
Valley Transit Partners—a joint venture of Flatiron, Stacy and Witbeck, and Modern Railway Systems—has been selected for the contract to deliver the G-Line Bus Rapid Transit Improvements project. Estimated at $300 million, the progressive design-build project seeks to improve operating speeds, capacity and safety of the popular G-Line busway while enhancing service to passengers and minimizing disruption to San Fernando Valley residents.
