Bruce Kay
Vice President
AECOM
With the Delaware Dept. of Transportation’s embracing of the construction manager/general contractor project delivery method, Kay says the agency is engaging contractors during the design stage to provide constructibility input.
“This delivery method has been a huge success during the recent design and construction of the $200-million I-95 ‘Restore the Corridor’ rehabilitation through Wilmington,” he says.
Kay adds that the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will put a “focus on providing a resilient and sustainable infrastructure by incorporating innovative solutions, such as alternative energy and electrification, to address the challenges associated with climate change.”
Meanwhile, Kay says that “extreme cost escalation” has continued to hamper housing, commercial structures and transportation projects.
“We haven’t had to manage an inflationary environment of this magnitude in more than 30 years,” Kay says. He adds that AECOM’s Plan Spend digital tool is helping its clients plan and budget using “data-driven science” to help ease the impact of inflation.
