The six-story Grand Challenges Research Building will bring together researchers from across the University of Arizona’s Tucson campus in a facility that is not only connected physically to the rest of the campus, but also conceptually linked to the research taking place across the university. The design includes high-performance facade and building systems and is targeting LEED Gold with an EUI of 240 using all electric renewable sources.
“Aside from tracking the stage of the exterior skin assembly, I was inspired to capture life during the construction process, not only through the workers but through the exposed system,” says drone photographer Jasmin Guzman. “Often in a finished building, this is the stage that isn’t considered by the user. I am always inspired by process, and getting to capture these moments is the best part of my job.”
Guzman has been flying a drone for three years, capturing the progress of several of Kitchell’s construction projects throughout Tucson. The project’s design-build team is comprised of Kitchell, ZGF and BWS.
