Platinum Contracting, a Las Vegas-based heavy civil and underground utilities contractor, recently completed a large-scale underground infrastructure project in Summerlin West, the next phase of the existing Summerlin residential community in the Las Vegas area. The installation supports the expansion of the master-planned community’s last section, which spreads across more than 22,000 acres in southern Clark County. Overall, the new expansion will set the foundation for several planned subdivisions, according to the contractor. Currently, Summerlin West includes more than 15 different neighborhoods, along with more than 25 community parks, 16 public schools, 10 private schools and a 485-bed hospital. Platinum’s responsibilities on this contract include the installation of dry utilities, such as telecom lines, natural gas piping and electrical systems.

“Completing this project represents a key milestone in the growth of Southern Nevada,” said Robert Jay, president and partner at Platinum Contracting. “Our team brought extensive experience in heavy civil and underground utility work to this venture.” The Howard Hughes Corp., the owner of the master-planned community, completed the first phase of the development in 1990. The community is named after Howard Hughes’ grandmother, Jean Amelia Summerlin.
