Autodesk was named August 6 the official Design and Make Platform of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Team USA. Over the next four years, Autodesk’s software will be used to support the 2028 games' more than $1-billion temporary overlay and construction plan in and around Los Angeles.

The LA28 plan calls for avoiding the construction of any new permanent venues. The International Olympic Committee says it is committed to build LA28’s footprint by adapting existing or building temporary infrastructure. Los Angeles previously hosted Olympic games in 1934 and 1984, and many of its existing venues, such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, can be adapted for use once again. Over 40 competition and major non-competition venues across Southern California will be retrofitted for the LA28 Games.

“Autodesk’s software is a part of our LA28 story: the behind-the-scenes technology that brings our vision of the LA28 Games to life,” LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman said in a statement. “Together, we will develop the right plan to support 12- to 15-million ticketed fans over such a short period of time."

LA28 will use Autodesk's software, including Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud, for collaboration with stakeholders on the design, development and ultimate delivery of the venues, according to the statement.

“At Autodesk, we believe the most sustainable building is the one already built. That's why we're excited by LA28’s ambitious plan to retrofit existing structures to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of the LA28 Games venue plan,” said Amy Bunszel, Autodesk executive vice president for AEC.

The statement also said LA28’s partnership with Autodesk will support collaboration with public transportation agencies over the next four years. LA28 will use Autodesk software to aid in the design of Olympics-related transportation elements and traffic control plans in addition to venues and support facilities.

LA28 has not yet released details on how designers and contractors will be mandated to use the Autodesk platforms for work related to the games.
