McCarthy Building Cos. recently celebrated the topping out of the $185-million Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building 12 (ISTB12) at Arizona State University’s Polytechnic campus in Mesa, Ariz. Designed by SmithGroup, the 173,194-sq-ft research and education building will be an innovation landmark for the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering’s new School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks. The ISTB12 houses laboratory research, office, meeting, instructional and collaboration spaces with infrastructure and labs specializing in additive manufacturing, robotics for smart manufacturing and industry automation, cyber manufacturing and operations research, semiconductor manufacturing and manufacturing systems for the energy sector. Despite supply-chain delays, the project is tracking on schedule as a result of the project team’s early procurement of electrical gear, panels and breakers as well as mechanical air handling units. McCarthy’s craft workforce team has completed the project’s concrete, civil, plumbing and steel work. This is the first ASU construction project to utilize several prefabrication innovations such as multitrade corridor racks constructed off site and hoisted into place, prefabricated backer panels for building enclosure and an in-deck unistrut system cast into the slabs for future flexibility.

McShane Construction Co. recently completed construction of the Manor Scottsdale, a 286-unit apartment complex located in Scottsdale, Ariz., and designed by Humphreys & Partners Architects. The five-story wrap-style building consists of one-, two- and three-bedroom units with quartz countertops, smart home technology and private balconies for every residence. The building sits on a 6.5-acre site and includes 32 penthouse apartments and 19 apartments with mountain views. There are also 24 kosher apartments.

Amenities include a fitness center with yoga and spin rooms, a wellness center and sauna, a club room kitchen, a game room with an arcade and golf simulator, an outdoor swimming pool, a grotto and summer kitchens. The community also offers electric vehicle charging stations and a smart package room with cold storage.
