This high-profile interchange connecting the heavily traveled California State Route 99 Freeway with the local street network in the northwest area of Fresno will drastically enhance traffic circulation and commerce for the city. Scope of work included construction of a six-lane super-arterial roadway, a freeway interchange at State Route 99, a grade separation over the Union Pacific Railroad, six new on- and off-ramps, four bridges, local road improvements, six new signalized intersections and a new pedestrian trail network.

Due to challenging soil conditions, the project team added the full-depth reconstruction of the Bryan & Veterans intersection as well as the reconstruction of both the existing northbound and southbound segments of Veterans Boulevard, totaling about 100,000 sq ft.

Coordinating with other teams on several projects within the Veterans Boulevard Interchange footprint was vital to limit disruptions. These included the repaving of SR99 and various city and high-speed rail projects.

Work was completed on time and within budget, even with roughly $1 million of additional scope for road reconstruction.

The team also identified, negotiated and implemented more than $1 million of value engineering changes.
