The seven-story, 88,000-sq-ft Broward Sheriff’s Office Training Center is so much more than a shooting range.
Designed to achieve LEED Gold status, the facility includes offices, a 250-seat auditorium, classrooms and training rooms, fire rescue simulation labs, a rappel tower and indoor firearm ranges.
An “open to above” production floor concept provides viewing access from each level to promote interdisciplinary collaboration. An oak and steel three-story floating staircase serves as a focal point. A five-story, 700-space parking garage is topped with a two-story training space.
Visitors are greeted by the two-story lobby honoring the 17 victims of the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Fla., in 2018. The memorial serves as a daily reminder of the importance of law enforcement training and preparedness.

The structure also includes a research and development area, an engineering and machine shop and a parts department that are critical for developing a variety of programs related to public safety.
The training center features contemporary, functional design and the latest green technology to reduce energy consumption during operation. Construction employed conventional shell techniques using masonry, concrete and glass in order to ensure durable interior finishes for administrative offices, training rooms and machine shops.
The facility’s design aims to maximize efficiency, with a squared floor configuration and glass-walled offices to facilitate optimal collaboration. The building not only enhances the training division of the sheriff’s office, but fosters integration across various different departments across Broward County.
ANF’s design-build team was able to recover $19 million in savings through value engineering by overcoming challenges for the project team like material availability and costs, all while operating within the Broward Sheriff’s Office campus and its tight security restrictions.
Starting work in November 2021, the facility was completed on schedule and at budget in May 2024.
