The PR Hwy.-111 emergency repair project addressed critical slope failure and stabilization concerns along a vital transportation route in Utuado, Puerto Rico. The project widened and stabilized a total of 148 ft of roadway to ensure safe passage for motorists. The one-month endeavor encompassed not only the repair of the slope failure but also the stabilization of an adjacent wall that posed potential hazards due to its proximity to the affected area.

Implementation involved the installation of soil nails, micropiles and new inboard and outboard concrete swales to control and direct stormwater away from the area. Construction activities were meticulously coordinated to minimize disruptions to traffic flow, with provisions ensuring at least one lane remained open throughout the repair process. Rigorous testing protocols were employed to verify the structural integrity of stabilization elements, guaranteeing compliance with design standards.

The project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule in December 2023.
