A five-story, 233,681-sq-ft post-tensioned concrete structure clad with decorative perforated metal paneling serves as the Boise Airport’s new employee parking garage.
The East Parking Garage provides the airport with a second long-term parking garage. Scope also included a new pedestrian bridge consisting of structural steel, glazing and metal panel construction.
With the addition of the East Garage, the existing short- and long-term parking exit routes had to be modified. A 1,545-sq-ft parking office building, seven-lane toll plaza and new pavement routing were also built to accommodate the East Garage as well as the existing garages.
As the former home of a city landfill and the airport’s now replaced air traffic control tower, the site came with extensive existing underground utilities and conflicts. Extensive planning and detailed exploratory potholing with a non-invasive process uncovered the actual depth and location of existing utilities.
The team then worked to develop design and construction solutions with minimal impact to schedule and costs, successfully installing deep foundations and new utilities.
