AIA Denver Recognizes 2010 Member Achievements in Architecture

The American Institute of Architects Denver chapter recognized its 2010 architectural design, honor and president�s awards recipients during a ceremony on Sept. 24 at Mile High Station in Denver.

The following 21 architectural design awards were selected from 79 entries submitted by members of AIA Denver and judged by a jury of architects and design experts from California. They were presented by AIA Denver Design Awards Jury Chair David Darling of Aidlin Darling Design, San Francisco. The winners are:

In addition to the design awards, five honor awards were presented by AIA Denver 2010 Honor Awards Jury Chair Gary Desmond.

Roth + Sheppard Architects, Denver, was named Firm of the Year Award, which recognizes an AIA-member firm that has made substantial contributions to the profession and has set an example both in design and leadership in the city over a period of at least 10 years.

Chris Kastelic of Sink Combs Dethlefs, Denver, was named Young Architect of the Year, recognized for significant contributions made during the early stages of an architect’s career that exemplify outstanding built or unbuilt work of any scale, as well as projects, initiatives and brilliant beginnings that warrant attention from the profession or the public.

Martha Bennett of Bennett Wagner & Grody Architects, Denver, was given the Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes an architect who has made significant contributions to AIA, the profession and the citizens of Denver.

The AIA Denver Committee on the Environment was given the James Sudler Award for Contribution to AIA Denver, which recognizes an outstanding contribution to the chapter, including achievements of people who have, by their professionalism, dedication, leadership, ability and commitment, improved the quality of services offered by AIA Denver.

Tamara Door, president/CEO of the Downtown Denver Partnership was honored with the Phil Milstein Award for Contributions by a Non-Architect, which recognizes outstanding accomplishments by a non-architect in the AIA Denver chapter for contributing to the quality of the built environment.

Finally, three President’s Awards were presented by AIA Denver 2010 President Tania Salgado. These awards are presented to individuals or groups who have made extraordinary contributions in supporting the mission of AIA Denver or local architecture and are selected at the discretion of the chapter president. The winners include: Cara Hlad, Downtown Denver Partnership, the AIA Denver Urban Design Committee and the AIA Denver Public Affairs Committee.
