The U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs is seeking a site to build a new 200-acre VA national cemetery in the Colorado Springs area, with land acquired either through purchase or donation. The site must be within El Paso County and have unencumbered water rights and infrastructure already in place for immediate access and availability. VA anticipates an initial water demand of 120 acre ft per year, with a future increase up to 350 acre ft per year. Design is under way for upgrades to the surgery and intensive care units at the VA Medical Center in Boise. The project will remodel approximately 4,200 sq ft of space on the third floor and extend it out 8,032 sq ft and above the existing admitting and specialty care additions to Building 85. Developer McWhinney Enterprises is planning to build the five-story, 115,744-sq-ft North Park Office Building, the first of five office buildings in a business complex at Northwest Parkway and I-25 in Broomfield. North Park, estimated to cost at least $15 million, is still in conceptual planning, with no construction method selected yet. Design is progressing on the North Shore Aqueduct Vineyard Connector Segment in Lehi. The project will install 40,000 ft of 60-in. mortar-lined, taped and armor-coated welded steel pipe. The pipeline will start in the northwest corner of the former Geneva Steel site and end at 600 East and Pioneer Crossing in Lehi, paralleling the planned Utah Dept. of Transportation Vineyard Connector road. Zocalo Community Development will build a 13-story, 220-unit apartment building with retail space and restaurants on the ground floor at 19th and Chestnut streets near Denver Union Station. Planning is under way, and further action on the estimated $60-million, 250,000-sq-ft building is anticipated in three to six months. The developer is serving as architect. MI Development Corp. is planning the second phase of the Parkway Circle mixed-use project at Interlocken in Broomfield. The second and final phase includes two 180,000-sq-ft office buildings; a 156-room, 136,000-sq-ft hotel; three concrete pads for future restaurants; a 4,000-sq-ft drive-through bank; three retail buildings; and two parking garages constructed on a 25-acre site. Utah
The University of Utah is in design development on a project to install utility tunnels below the Salt Lake City campus' HPER Mall that will eliminate nearly all walkways and site features along the length of the mall. The completed project will create an extensive pedestrian mall in the center of campus with significant pedestrian and bicycle traffic that will result in complex traffic patterns and conflicts. The university and its consultants are working to resolve the traffic issues, which include campus shuttles, skateboarding and integrating a bioswale in the middle of the mall. Granite School District has completed design for an estimated $14-million replacement building and infrastructure upgrades at the district's Hartvigsen Special Education School in Salt Lake City. The first phase will upgrade the west parking lot. It will be followed by sitework and utilities and then construction of a new school building in the final phase. Abrika Properties is planning to build the $50-million-plus Haymeadow Residential Development in the town of Eagle. The project will include a 979-unit subdivision on 660 acres, and the various home plans are expected to total an estimated 1.5 million sq ft. Montana State University in Bozeman is in design development on an estimated $10-million expansion of the university's Bobcat Stadium, including new locker rooms, concessions, restrooms, site work and the addition of new end-zone signage.
