NMDOT Begins Last Phase of U.S. 62/180

The last phase of construction to widen U.S. 62/180 from two to four lanes between Carlsbad and White City began. The $10-million GRIP project is the last of five phases begun in 2007. The previous phases were completed at a cost of $75 million.

Approximately $4 million in federal earmark funds were allocated for an additional four-mi section of U.S. 62/180 highway from the Carlsbad airport north to the junction of U.S. 285. This future project will complete the entire reconstruction of the corridor from New Mexico-Texas state line in Eddy County to the New Mexico-Texas state line in Lea County. This work will begin later this year.
