Top Owners Sourcebook: Streamlining DCA Journey

Framing is nearly complete for a 230,000-sq-ft concourse at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Two hangars and an office building were demolished to make way for the $385.5-million project, the centerpiece of the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority’s ongoing B/C Terminal redevelopment plan, Project Journey. The three-level, 14-gate facility will replace bus-served gates for regional airline flights, which handle a significant portion of DCA’s more than 23 million passengers annually. Scheduled for completion in 2021, the concourse’s architectural features will complement Terminal B/C’s exposed metal beams, glass walls and domed ceilings with open, navigable gate areas and panoramic views of downtown Washington, D.C. A separate $263-million project is adding two 50,000-sq-ft security screening checkpoints above the existing arrivals roadway to help relieve interior crowding.
