Denver’s JE Dunn Construction celebrated the mid-September topping out of Trimble’s Westminster building project. Trimble currently has 164 locations, but the new 125,000-sq-ft, four-story building and research center located at 10368 Westmoor Dr. will be the first to be owned by Trimble. The Colorado Dept. of Transportation has announced the scope of a planned $110-million project to upgrade Denver’s congested Sixth Avenue Freeway (U.S. 6) near where it intersects with the central I-25 corridor. CDOT says the multi-phase project, which will begin early next year, consists of the following elements: • Replaces five bridges that are currently in poor condition, including: U.S. 6 over Bryant Street, U.S. 6 over I-25, Federal Boulevard over U.S. 6, U.S. 6 over the South Platte River (just west of I-25) and U.S. 6 over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad east of I-25. • Reconstructs the U.S.
The first phase of construction on a University of Colorado Boulder campus utility project that will provide efficient heating and cooling while significantly reducing the university’s carbon emissions began in late August, with utility work and construction staging on the south side of campus. Colorado State University engineers will collaborate with RTI International and others to develop a waterless toilet that converts human waste into burnable fuel and disinfected, non-potable water. The “Reinvent the Toilet Challenge,” made possible by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to RTI International, could significantly improve public health and quality of life among people in developing countries.RTI’s design will accomplish three primary functions: disinfect liquid waste, dry and burn solid waste, and convert the resulting combustion energy into stored electricity.
