ENR California is pleased to announce that XL Construction has been named the region's 2020 Contractor of the Year!
XL, based in Milpitas, Calif., reports 2019 revenue for the region of California and Hawaii of $671 million, up 39% year-over-year from $482 million in 2018.
The Silicon Valley general contractor, with additional offices in Sacramento and San Francisco, achieved 6.5 million man-hours in 2019 with no lost-time injuries and zero lost workdays for 12th year running. The firm saw overall organization growth of 30%.
XL also announced major leadership transitions with the promotion of industry veteran Richard Walker to president and chief operating officer, and founder Eric Raff will continue to serve as chief executive officer.
One of the firm’s notable 2019 projects is El Camino Health’s Taube Pavilion and Scrivner Center for Mental Health & Addiction Services at El Camino Hospital. The Taube Pavilion is a $96.4 million two-story, 52,000 sf OSHPD facility with 36 beds divided among three areas – 12 beds are dedicated to a behavioral focus unit for women, 15-18 to mood disorders and 6-9 to El Camino Hospital’s Maternal Outreach Mood Services for patients struggling with prenatal or postnatal depression or anxiety.
Also in 2019, XL took home ENR California’s Regional Best Projects award for Best Interiors/Tenant Improvement for its work on Agri-Industrial Tech Campus Renovation, a 225,000-sq-ft project sprawled across 10 acres. The project included work space and meeting rooms construction for 1,150 employees, a 15,000-sq-ft café with space for 350 diners, a 500-person event space and many informal meeting spaces designed to encourage collaboration.
